My Reflection on My Cox Internship

Although there were many great parts about the internship, I did feel like one thing that could have been improved on was the fact that it was remote. I, often times, felt very left out when I saw the events that the Atlanta, Georgia interns were able to partake in. I felt isolated often times when it came to the other interns. There were 110 candadites and only about 30 out-of-state interns who were not at the coporate hub of Atlantaelped me feel valued as more than just a worker, and for that I am grateful.

I met a lot of my SMART goals. For those who do not know, SMART goals stand for specific, measurable, attainable, and time bound goals. Here were mine...
S: I want to create at least 5 social media videos throughout the internship, create one copy edit for another coworker, and establish one main project for the company. M: All of these goals will be tracked through projects, which can be easily documented.
A: I have never been in a public relations role, especially when it comes to copy editing. I would love to learn how to copy edit for people in the job, and even take on a copy editing project once I learn how to efficiently communicate from another person’s standpoint.
R: I feel like these goals are obtainable, especially in a three month time frame. I plan on creating social media videos as I progress into the internship (I have already created two).
T: I would like to achieve these goals towards the end of my internship, which will be around July 31st.
Unfortunately, I did not meat any of my SMART goals besides establishing one main project for the company. It is all okay though because I exceeded that goal by creating three main projects for the company. I underestimated the time it would take for me to stablish each goal since a lot of Cox's procedures include a chainlink of people to go through before the project is published and completed. It was almost impossible to see the end of my goals due to the lack of time and the fact that my internship ended up being remote. I also did not complete the copy editing goal because no one needed it during that time, so instead I created three major social media community impact campaigns.
In terms of shaping my career, I feel like I learned a lot about workplace value as a Cox employee. It helped me realize that I want to love what I do, but I also want to be valued as an employee. I learned that the workplace that values me will not only value my work but value who I am as a person. I also learned new skills such as leadership and project management.
Overall, I hope someday I can continue this journey with Cox. The workplace enviorment taught me a lot, and I loved the culture of this place. I would recommend this internship to anyone with the advice of "don't be scared to put yourself out there. The right place will value you."
