This trailer of the movie “Her” is about a man that falls in love with technology that he developed that is based off Apple’s Siri and can be associated with Artificial Intelligence such as ChatGPT today. This trailer suggest that new media technology is damaging to society, because it highlights how connected we are to our cell phones. Even though this movie trailer seems to be exaggerated, because no sane person would fall in love with their computer operating system, there is some truth to the matter.

Although I have not seen the movie, from what I have gathered from the trailer, this film has a deeper layer and conceals the dystopian aspect of technology at first glance by poking fun at society’s technology addiction. By basing a story around a man that falls in love with his computer operating system, it really put into perspective how addicted we are to technology. It reminds me of how some of my friends will roleplay scenarios on ChatGPT and how a lot of people, including, myself panic when we cannot find our phones. This movie seems to highlight how technology creates distance between people which can funnel into antisocial behaviors, or (for children) developmental issues when it comes to socialization. Overall, the movie “Her” seems to be a comical stab at society’s reliance on technology.
